Emily Low

Writer/Performer

Emily is a writer, performer and storyteller based in the North East.

She started her journey as The Queen of Spoons for Alphabetti Theatre and went on to become a clown.

Emily won the Channel 4 / New Writing North Writing for TV Award in 2024 which led to her developing her comedy pilot Lucky Cat with Rollem Productions.

She performed her play Goodbye Kajang! for Newcastle Fringe in 2025 and more recently her dark comedy Chopstick Dance! was staged at Live Theatre.  She sometimes delves into the serious: her play Fold Me a Paper Man won Alphabetti Theatre’s response competition and was staged in April 2024.

She also has a love of children’s theatre, and produced and performed her Magic Faraway Tree inspired play Land of Lost Stories last summer.

Fold Me a Paper Man

‘a real tenderness to it…ability to craft kind, flawed characters desperately trying to do their best… spoke to the grand themes of landscape, grief and art within the context of an intimate play.’ - National Theatre.

Emily is our star writer for The Welcome Project. Her expertise in storytelling, writing, acting, creativity, and simply being a gorgeous person all around makes our writing sessions such a pleasure - Northern Stage

I met Emily at a New Writing North event when Emily was first dipping her toe into screenwriting. We stayed in touch and exchanged excited updates. Unbeknownst to Emily, I have kept hold of her cartoon stick figure business card ever since, knowing that one day it might come in very handy. - Daisy

Chopstick Dance! (Live Theatre)

‘It’s gorgeous, it’s so gorgeous…a really human global story’

‘by presenting a cultural experience on the stage that is not going to be shared by your entire audience and is not fully shared by the storyteller that is just a really interesting prism to view the experience of grief’
